Circular Woven Guatemalan Coasters

Coasters are one of those things you don't think about until the water ring appears. These make the thinking worthwhile. Each set of four is handwoven in Guatemala from 100% cotton, cut into circular coasters with a playful trick: each of the four carries a different slice of the pattern, from a quarter to a half to three-quarters to full overlap. Line them up and the design travels across the set.

Fabric With a Second Life

The cloth comes from The New Denim Project, a third-generation Guatemalan textile mill that turns discarded denim and clothing scraps into new yarn — no harmful chemicals, no synthetic dyes, no polyester. Even the cotton byproducts go on to become compost for local coffee growers. Upcycled, eco-friendly fabric that ends up on your coffee table instead of in a landfill.

Set of 4 coasters, each approximately 4.5 x 4.5 inches. 100% cotton, handwoven in Guatemala. Machine wash cold; hang dry or tumble dry low. Because each piece is handmade, patterns and colors carry small, lovely variations. Available in multiple colorways. Made by UPAVIM, a women's cooperative in La Esperanza, on the outskirts of Guatemala City, and a member of the Fair Trade Federation — proceeds help fund the cooperative's community school and scholarship programs.
