Bolga baskets take their name from the Bolgatanga region of Ghana, long known for this style of tight, coiled grass weaving. This large round version is handwoven from elephant grass and finished with fabric-wrapped handles.
At roughly 15" in diameter and 12" tall, it moves easily between a market basket, a plant basket, and overflow laundry storage. The rounded shape and sturdy handles hold up to being carried full and set down often.
Every coil is placed by hand, so the exact width and color shift slightly piece to piece. That's the tradeoff for something a machine can't replicate.
