This hamper is handwoven in Ghana from elephant grass with a removable lid, a detail that takes real time to get right. Some of these lidded baskets take up to two weeks per piece to weave.
Standing 22" tall with a 16" diameter, the lid sits flush rather than perched on top, so it functions as real closed storage, not just a decorative topper.
The slower weave produces a denser, sturdier basket wall than quicker methods. It's a fair trade piece sourced through Powered by People, a certified B Corp, so the time invested in the weaving is reflected in what the maker is paid, not shaved off the price.
